Vets, Pets, Tricks, and Tales
Dr. Peterschmidt, local veterinarian, will show everybody his dogs, their tricks, and how to care for pets.  There will be several make and take craft opportunities following his presentation.

Snakes Alive!
Enjoy this "hands on" program slithering through our area from the Grout Museum.

“Paws, Claws, Scales, and Tales” is being offered to area youth this summer at the Independence Public Library. The summer library program encourages reading for pleasure and provides constructive activities during the summer break.  Over 370 kids have signed up for the program!

To add to the fun and create a sense of challenge to keep the kids reading, we offer incentives and prizes during the program. The goal is to read 25 days for 15 minutes or more.  Registration for the program begins on June 5th at the library.  Critter Cash will be given when children meet periodic reading goals.  Sometimes they may be surprised with additional Critter Cash if they attend library programs!  Children will be able to spend their money on great prizes which will be on display by the end of May at the library.

Local businesses and individuals have generously donated prizes and incentives to give to each participant for their reading efforts.  

Grand prizes for the event will be a Leapster Electronic Learning System (ages 0-5), a Mini Stereo (ages 6-9), and an iPod Shuffle (ages 10-12).  Barnes and Noble gift certificates for $25 are also prizes for each category.
