Make plans to attend Riverside Cinema this summer.  The 5000 lumens DLP projector lights up the 10’ x 13’ screen and the powerful Peavey speaker system completes the incredible presentation.  Each movie is free and open to the public.  The sponsors of each movie make it possible to pay for the public performance fees necessary for showing each movie.

Bring blankets or chairs, find a spot in the park, and settle in for a movie!  If you get the munchies, the Friends of the Library sell popcorn and pop at each of the events.

See you at the park!

More information about Teddy Roosevelt Night...

The Independence Public Library presents Teddy Roosevelt Night, a special evening with National Award-Winner Darrel Draper as Theodore Roosevelt and a showing of the movie, The Indomitable Teddy Roosevelt.  The event is part of the Riverside Cinema series, outdoor movies shown at the River Walk Park Band Shell, located north of downtown on the east side of the Wapsipinicon River at the corner of 6th Street and 1st Avenue NE.  The event begins at 7:30 pm on Friday, July 23rd.

Teddy Roosevelt Night will begin with Darrel Draper giving his debut performance of Theodore Roosevelt.  Draper is the winner of 12 National Awards for his historical reenactments and has performed for governors, congressman, major corporations and the president of Mexico.  For 18 years, Darrel has been using his talents as storyteller and actor to educate and entertain.  His keen sense of humor is woven into his performances, which are complete with costume, accents, and little known facts drawn from Draper’s extensive research.

Following the reenactment, the library will show the feature movie, The Indomitable Teddy Roosevelt.  This film is both a moving portrait of the 26th president and a dynamic panorama of the great events of the early years of the 20th century. Among many subjects included in this cinematic mosaic are foreign policy, women's rights, Spanish-American War, aviation, conservation, the Progressive Party, and World War I.  Music from the suites, operettas and marches of John Philip Sousa complete the presentation.

Mark your calendar for 7:30 pm on July 23rd at Independence’s River Walk Park for a night of fun, humor and history!  If you have any questions, contact the library at 334-2470 or www.indylibrary.org.

Copyright Restrictions do not allow publishing the titles on the Internet or mass media of any kind.  Please call the library, 334-2470, or stop in for a complete list of the movies we will be showing.
