HELP for Do-It-Yourself Home
Improvement Projects!
Does that leaky faucet need some work? That wallpaper in the living room screaming out – I’m from the 70’s? Or is it time for a deck to increase your warm weather enjoyment? The Independence Public Library has how-to help for your home improvement needs! Ten new DVDs are available for checkout which detail visual how-to instructions for a myriad of projects and provide fully diagrammed, printable booklets. They cover a wide range of topics, from simple projects to complex, from buying a home to remodeling your kitchen, from repair work to new installation of fixtures, floors, drywall, etc. Advice on tools, materials, and common mistakes to avoid are all included. The DVD can be viewed with a DVD player or on a computer with a DVD drive, and the topics are broken down into chapters so that you can immediately access the material in which you are interested and skip the rest (or watch it all if you so choose)! The printable booklets need to be viewed and printed using a computer with a DVD drive. The booklets include step by step directions and diagrams. We have computers with DVD drives available for public use in the library, so feel free to check in at the desk and use one of ours for this purpose.
These resources can all be found in the library’s DVD section. The series is called Positive Home Solutions. These were selected the “Home Improvement Series of the Year” by the American Film Institute. The individual titles are:
