Through the Eyes of a Child

In the last five years, the Independence Public Library visits have increased by 35%.  The number of visits in 99-00 was 33,815 and the number of visits in 04-05 was 45,757!   

Following are some comments from a few of our young patrons.  Mrs. Hill’s second grade class came to the library last fall.  All of us have a great time learning about libraries and reading when groups visit the library.  If you have a group you would like to bring to the library, please give us a call.  Here is a small sampling of the thank you letters we received from Mrs. Hill’s second grade class:

Library Tidbits:
Law and the ER has been rescheduled to Thursday, Jan. 26^th.  Donald Harstad and Dawn Pederson will talk about their experiences in law enforcement and the emergency room.  Harstad is also the author of 5 crime fiction books and will have a booksigning following the program.  The event begins at 7 pm at the VFW Building.

Story times continue in January on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 am.  Themes for the remainder of this month are Jan. 18 Penguins, and Jan. 25^th Max’s Birthday. 

January basic computer classes are full, but we plan to do February classes, so check the B-J, the library website www.indylibrary.org, or call us at 334-2470 to find out more.

Did you know that we have books on CD for children?  Some of our newest children’s chapter books on CD are Last Holiday Concert by Andrew Clements, The Spiderwick Chronicles by  Tony DeTerlizzi, The Giver by Lois Lowry, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine,  and Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer.
