Make a Difference with a Gift to the Library

The Library is a worthy cause!
If you are considering donating to worthy causes over the holidays, put the library on your short list.  We can always put monetary donations to good use, and that helps our patrons and our community!  As said by James Michener, one of our great American Writers, “Public libraries have been a mainstay of my life. They represent an individual’s right to acquire knowledge; they are the sinews that bind civilized societies the world over. Without libraries, I would be a pauper, intellectually and spiritually.”  Often libraries have been called the great equalizer.  Did you know that Americans spend more than three times as much on salty snacks as they do on public libraries?

Give to a friend or relative and to the library!
Do you have something for everyone on your gift list for the holidays?  There are several people on my list that I can’t think of a thing they need, or, at least nothing I can afford that I think that person would want.  Consider giving a donation to the library in that person’s name.  The donation would go towards collection (books, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines, etc.) and programming (planning and offering events for our community) if there is no specific purpose given when the donation is made.  If you have a certain item or program in mind, please specify when you donate the money.  Or if you would like to donate to a different facility, please note that.  This works not only for the winter holidays, but for birthdays, anniversaries, and memorials.  The library will send a notice to the person for whom the donation was made so that he or she is made aware of the gift.

Library Wish List
There are several items on our wish list that we hope to purchase to help us serve you better.  If you are considering giving a gift to the library this season, these are a good starting point.  Please talk with me (Laura Blaker, 334-2470 or lblaker@indytel.com) about item specifics and dollar amounts.  Dollar amounts for books and other items vary greatly depending on the actual item.  If you have your own gift ideas, please talk with me or a library board member (Craig Ankerstjerne, Ronda Howard, Jacquie McTaggart, Nancy Muir, Bill Stamper, Mary Stevenson, or Mark White) about them.

A Gift of Your Time
Some of the best gifts are people sharing their time and talents with others.  I would love to talk with you about different possibilities in this area.  Some of our areas of greatest need currently are Friends of the Library and our Building Committee.  If you are interested in helping out or want to know more about volunteer possibilities, please contact the library.
