Independence native, film archivist, and documentary film producer, Randy Gitsch, will be here in Independence for a special screening of Cinerama Adventure! Cinerama Adventure will be shown at the Independence Public Library’s Community Room on Saturday, Sept. 5th at 7:00 pm. Gitsch, son of Ron and Ann Gitsch, will introduce the film, answer questions, and give away door prizes.
The movie that will be shown, Cinerama Adventure, is one of several that Randy Gitsch has produced. Gitsch, with a long-time interest in history and archives, found himself dealing with film deterioration on a daily basis at the Sherman Grinberg and Energy stock libraries. This led to the production of the critically acclaimed Keepers of the Frame, which Randy co-wrote and produced. This film was shown during the summer of 2007 as one of the library’s Riverside Cinema events.

Cinerama Adventure brings to life the amazing history of the three-camera, three-projector cinematic process which thrilled millions in the 1950s and 60s. This brought the audience into a virtual reality experience that was far ahead of its time. Many baby boomers remember the sweeping aerials, thrilling roller coaster rides, and other Cinerama experiences which brought the viewer into the action. Cinerama Adventure has been called an “engaging record not only of the process of Cinerama but also its cultural impact as an entertainment and educational event.” (Shelley Cameron, Reel Movie Critic)
The Cinerama story is filled with people who took many risks in trying to capture film footage that could compete with the new television era. Over forty original crew members, celebrities, and film historians have been interviewed in Cinerama Adventure. Debbie Reynolds, Carroll Baker and Eli Wallach are some of celebrity interviewees featured in the film. For more information, visit www.cineramaadventure.com.
Gitsch worked with David Strohmaier and others to bring awareness to the Cinerama format and history as well as the preservation of these films. The awareness is growing through showings in numerous film festivals across the country and overseas. The documentary is also being released on the latest How the West Was Won DVD, which Warner Brothers restored and remastered from its original Cinerama release version.
Find out more about the Cinerama experience and talk with the producer of the definitive documentary on the subject, Randy Gitsch. Take advantage of this unique opportunity on Sat., Sept. 5th at 7:00 pm at the Independence Public Library. For more information, please contact the library at 334-2470.
